COVID-19 Updates From New Life
Greetings New Life Family and Friends,
We are thankful to announce that in-person worship will resume at New Life this Sunday, May 9th!
There is important information contained in this letter regarding our re-opening, please take the time to read it carefully.
Over the past three weeks our New Life church family has experienced approximately 30 cases of Covid-19, including ages pre-school and up. This has been a long and stressful time as many weathered the sickness – some were only slightly affected, many were very sick and are still recovering, and others are improving, but have lingering fatigue and other after-effects of the virus (including Pastor Gary and Michelle). Four people required hospitalization.
We are deeply saddened that one of them, Barb Jacobs’s sister, Diane Bradbury, did not recover and went to be with Jesus. Diane was part of our New Life church family for the last 6 months. She was a wonderful person and is deeply missed. We extend our deepest sympathies to Barb and her family – Diane was also Angie Wiedbrauk’s aunt. Please continue to keep Diane’s family in your prayers.
We cannot say that each Covid-19 case was due to in-church contact, some cases were contracted from outside the church, but the majority of cases can be traced to exposure within the church. Having this firsthand experience with the quick and aggressive spread of the virus should awaken each one of us to the very real need to follow social distancing guidelines and the very serious consequences when we do not.
The New Life Board has prayerfully considered the best possible ways to protect our body and to create a safe environment for each person as we resume meeting – please read and practice the following guidelines:
If you are in compromised health or do not feel ready to worship in person, we encourage you to join us from home. We welcome you to join via Facebook Live at: www.facebook.com/newlifealpena.
2. If you have experienced any of the following symptoms in the last 24 hours please stay home:
Fever or chills; cough, sore throat, congestion or sniffles; loss of sense of smell or taste; fatigue; aches, pains, headache; diarrhea, nausea, vomiting
3. If you test positive for Covid-19 please let us know so we can be praying for you! We care and want to support you. The CDC recommends that you stay home until after 10 days have passed since your positive test.
While gathering in the building we ask that each person practice the following:
Please be considerate of other people’s space and practice social distancing. We ask that an empty 2 - 3 seat space be kept between individuals or family groups.
Please mask while moving in the entry ways and hall ways.
We will be routing the “traffic flow” in a more efficient manner – greeters and ushers will be on hand to help guide you.
Hand sanitizer is available and thorough hand washing practices are encouraged.
Children’s classes will be in session as long as we have enough adult volunteers to staff each class.
First Friday Prayer will not be held this week – instead we encourage you to each to take time to pray at home or to join with one another via a phone conversation – our nation, community and body needs your prayers!
Fellowship/coffee hour will not be held this Sunday, but will resume as soon as we have enough volunteers to host it.
We ask for your ongoing patience and understanding as we endeavor to honor one another and show the love of Christ by taking good care of each other while we worship our Lord, Jesus Christ.
Thank you for your support. You are each loved and appreciated.
Gary and Michelle and the New Life Church Board
