COVID-19 Updates From New Life

A Note from Pastors Gary and Michelle Smith

In this time where we're all being challenged, and we're having to navigate some very unusal circumstances in our world, we would like to encourage you with the words we find in Joshua 1:9 (NASB), "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." This is a tremendous promise for us as believers!

We also want to let you know about how we're navigating this novel season at New Life. Right now our government is asking all of us to follow guidelines they've inacted in order to stop further spread of the virus, and we as leaders are going to honor their request. For this time, we will not be meeting in person on Sunday mornings in the church building. But, as you well know, the church is not the building, the church is the PEOPLE, and so we are encouraging you to continue to stay connected with one another.

In the coming weeks,  we will be livestreaming messages and times of worship in our New Life Friends and Family facebook group  , which is open for anyone who would like to join.

There WILL be Wednesday Night Discipleship class, as we are under the recommended government limits concerning gatherings.  There won't be childcare or New Life Kids, but we encourage you to come out and stay connected to the body of Christ as much as we can. Let's not let the fire go out!

We'll continue to communicate updates as they come via this website, Facebook, emails, phone calls, texts, and whatever means we can find to creatively stay connected.

During this time, we as a church family can be a voice of hope and a beacon of light to our community. There are a lot of people who are feeling hopeless and afraid right now, and we can share the hope, peace and love we have in Jesus with them!  There are a lot of ways we can shine - shopping for an elderly neighbor, checking in with a friend, maybe running errands?  This should be the church's finest hour!  Let's be the hands and feet of God to those around us.

In this time of "social distancing," we can still be connected- especially through a phone call! We encourage you to give people a call, maybe someone who's homebound during this time, or even someone who's newer to our church body to remind them that they aren't alone and that we're in this together.

Lastly, please remember to keep this in perspective. Don't let the voice of the world overwhelm you.  We want you to stay connected to God's word and the promises we find there.  One of the things that He promises is found in John 14:27 where Jesus himself said," Peace I leave with you; My [perfect] peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be afraid. [Let My perfect peace calm you in every circumstance and give you courage and strength for every challenge.]"  These are the words of the Prince of Peace himself.  He promises that He will give us His peace, and it's not what the temporary peace you find in the world.  It's the peace that only comes from God that passes all understanding that will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Don't panic- the world is speculating a lot of different things, but we also know that Psalms 1 says, "Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night."  People don't know what's going to happen, but we can keep grounded in the word, grounded in hope, and also continue to look at things in perspective.

Let's stay strong. Let's stay encouraged. Let's stay connected.

And let's continue to stand in prayer.

We love you!

God Bless,
- Pastors Gary and Michelle
